She Knew
By Ophelia ToussaintThe day had been very hard and long. All that Kay wanted to do was get a good night's sleep when she got home. She had been to London with her boss.
It was about twelve o'clock when she got home. When she got in Sam asked her where she had been until this time.
"You have been with your boss?"
She said nothing for a while. Then told Sam,
"You know I have to be with him. It's my job. He's my boss"
Kay got into bed. She lay there and listened. A few minutes went by.
"Are you awake Sam?" Sam said nothing. He didn't want to talk.
When he got like this Kay knew he can get violent. She put her hand on Sam's arm. He turned over on his side. Sam didn't want to talk. Kay lay on her back and listened to Sam breathing. Will he get me tonight or in the morning?
A light shone on the bedroom wall; a car came down the road. The light went. It was dark once more. Kay lay in the dark. She had to tell Sam that he would have to change his ways; but how would she tell him without him getting violent? Kay couldn't go to sleep, so she went down to the kitchen for a cup of tea.
As she sat down at the kitchen table, the church clock struck two. I will have my tea and go back to bed she said to herself. Suddenly, she noticed Sam standing at the kitchen door, it made her nervous. She felt embarrassed that he could make her feel like this.
"Did you want tea?" Kay asked him.
"NO" Sam told her angrily.
"I want to know, what's going on with you and your boss, he said to her violently".
"Not a thing" she replied nervously.
"I bet" Sam cried, "I bet".
Kay went back to bed just to get away from Sam. She lay there for some time before she went to sleep.
It was morning. Time for Kay to get up and get ready for work. Sam was already up and about. He made her a cup of tea.
"I'm sorry about last night" he told her. "I get so jealous over you" Sam explained. Kay knew it was the right time to tell him that she couldn't go on like this anymore.
"Sam you know that I love you, so why do you get so jealous over me? She asked.
"I don't know" he told her. He went on "I need you, I couldn't live without you".
Kay knew it was over but could she leave? She believed she could but would he let her go? He was damaging himself and her as well. Nevertheless she knew she would stay with him.
That night the evening paper reported that a man had killed his girlfriend in a jealous rage. Her name was Kay Potter. She was 22 years old and lived and worked in the local area.
