So ladies, what's been happening over the last few months?

Firstly, thanks to all those that turned up at the RARE event at the Apt Bar - we had a fab time! Check out the Features section for Sheroes perspective on MP's expenses, plus, have you ever thought about the benefits of volunteering?

Check out All About You for inspiring contributions from YOU and of course, our updated recipes in Food News, take a look at the updated news items in What the papers say and a quick update of what's on around London town in our Events, Useful Info etc section.

So take a look, spread the word and be a Sheroe!

Sheroes Background

Sheroes began in November 2005 and was co-founded by Amanda Toussaint, Delia Barker and Julie Cordice. We wanted to create a forum whereby black women had a voice that was representative of our experiences today.

Although Sheroes focus is on "black women", its doors are open to anyone who identifies with or who has an interest in being black, female and living in the United Kingdom.

Sheroes will create a platform whereby black women are able to identify their own needs and further their own aspirations. Communicating with each other will give us the opportunity to share our social, cultural and life experiences. We believe that black women across the country will identify with some of the information that will be featured on our website.

Research carried out on behalf of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation shows that black women fall into one of two camps - we're either "black" or "women". Our needs as "black women" are rarely addressed on the social and political stages.

Sheroes purpose is to change this!

We hope that you will find Sheroes interesting, informative and relevant to your experiences.
